A 15-meter illuminated fantasy castle that served as the grand entrance centerpiece of a 50-acre winter lantern festival at a major European theme park. The castle featured animated flags, glowing windows that changed color, a working drawbridge, and surrounding mythical creatures including dragons, unicorns, and wizards. Designed to evoke storybook magic while showcasing exceptional lantern craftsmanship, the castle zone became the most popular photo location at the festival and a signature element of the park winter identity.
Creating a 15-meter castle lantern for a theme park environment required meeting strict theme park safety standards, wind load requirements, and aesthetic expectations. The castle had to integrate visually with the park existing architecture while standing out as a festival centerpiece. The theme park also required that the installation be completely removable after the festival without leaving any permanent damage to the grounds. Nightly high visitor volumes meant the castle had to be visually spectacular from both close range and from across the park.
The 15-meter castle was designed with five towers of varying heights, each topped with animated flags that flapped in programmed sequences. Over 200 individual "windows" were illuminated with programmable LEDs that created the illusion of activity inside, with some windows showing silhouettes of dancing figures. The main gate featured a working drawbridge that could be raised and lowered during special performances. Surrounding the castle were 20 companion sculptures: a 10-meter fire-breathing dragon, two guardian unicorns, a wizard tower with animated crystal ball, and floating lanterns that created a magical atmosphere. The color palette used rich purples, deep blues, and golden accents to create a storybook fantasy atmosphere.
The castle was constructed in modular sections at our Zigong factory over 10 weeks, with each tower built as a self-contained unit for easy shipping and assembly. The structure used galvanized steel framing with a 4x safety factor for wind loads up to 120 km/h. All skin materials were waterproof PVC-coated silk, hand-painted with intricate stonework patterns, banners, and decorative details. On-site assembly took 8 days with a team of 12 technicians, using a modular connection system that required no welding or specialized tools. The castle was mounted on a temporary platform system that distributed weight evenly and could be completely removed without damaging the park grounds.
The fantasy castle zone attracted over 380,000 visitors during its three-month run, with surveys showing it as the most memorable element of the festival for 78% of respondents. The castle entrance became the primary photo location, with visitor-shared photos generating over 5 million social media impressions. The theme park reported a 22% increase in winter season attendance compared to the previous year, attributing much of the growth to the castle and lantern festival.
